Aims

The aims and purposes of our network are still under discussion. After our meeting in Aix-en-Provence in November 2018, we noted the following as possible aims:

• Promoting the discipline throughout the European scholarly community.

• Discussing the general policy of the European Music Analysis Conferences (EuroMAC), their periodicity, their location, and helping the formation of the selection committees.

• Help securing European and other funding for European international events.

• Collecting and circulating information about the activities and events of each of the societies – see the page Activities.

• Increasing mutual knowledge, promoting dialogue, stimulating an engagement for each other’s research activities, in both established and emerging traditions. Discussing the challenges to the discipline.

• Coordinating workgroups or forums and other collaborative projects between the societies.

• Stimulating the foundation of new societies in Europe and neighboring countries.

• Monitoring the state of the discipline across European borders.

• Raising awareness of the diversity and richness of the scholarly activity in theory and analysis in Europe and of its importance for creation and performance practices.

• Creating a directory of teaching and research institutions in theory and analysis in Europe. Identifying theories and practices, current or emergent, in these institutions. Detecting new links between disciplinary fields.

• Positioning present-day European theory and analysis alongside other national or international traditions and institutions.
